Fear of the Lord

When God stepped down on Mount Sinai there was a volcanic blaze and earthshaking rumble. The Hebrew children heard earsplitting words and a soul shaking message that terrified them so ferociously they begged Him to stop speaking. They were afraid to move. Even Moses was terrified. It says in Hebrews 12:21, "so terrifying was the sight (of God) that Moses said, "I am exceedingly afraid and trembling."

So terrifying is the voice and sight of God that the Hebrew children asked Moses to have God speak to them through him because they could not endure the fright of God speaking directly to them.

If a man can be so frightened by His voice alone only speaking instruction, how much more fearful to fall into the hands of a angry God on judgment day with a soul full of violent deeds and fleshly corruption?
We must serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.
The Word of God says, "It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God."
Hebrews 12:22 goes on to say we will, "come to Mount Zion and to the city of the Living God, the heavenly (invisible) Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of (a throng of festive) angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn (Christian citizens), who are registered in heaven, to God the judge of all (with judgments that make us just), to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, (a fresh charter) and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel." (the murder of Jesus was unlike Abel's-a murder that cried out for vengeance-Jesus's murder cries out for grace.)
Christ Jesus paid the price. He bought the ticket for you to enter heaven (eternal life) free and clear. He erased all the bad deeds and stains every man did or will do but only if we accept His offer of substitution.
If we turn a deaf ear like the Hebrew children did we have no other substitute. God says there is one last shaking coming on the earth, and not earth only but the heavens will be shaken too.
